I'm not trying to offend you, I'm sorry. I guess it's just me but I don't care for race, people are people

lordbape:

You don’t get to say that. You don’t get to say “people are people” when Black people are intentionally being killed for being Black— people clearly aren’t people. People aren’t “people” when a white felon can more easily get a job than a Black person who has never committed a crime. You don’t get to pretend you live in an alternate reality in which the construct of race doesn’t exist because it does. It doesn’t help anyone for you to pretend that race doesn’t exist and “people are just people”. Psychologists link that thinking to people being racists because it shows that you’d rather ignore reality than realize that people are oppressed for their races and it shows you don’t know how to empathize.

aquaticspacepussy:

Why is it that removing race makes white people feel so comfortable.

You should be insulted that your racism is so deep you need to remove a person’s heritage to see them as a person. You need to change the context of events just to understand them. How do you have the nerve to call yourself enlightened when in order to see the picture you have to blur the whole image.

Get out of here lol!

Strike on Gaza market ‘kills 15’ - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-28571785

At least 15 people have been killed and 160 wounded in an Israeli strike that hit a market near Gaza City, Palestinian officials say.
The explosion hit a busy fruit and vegetable market in Shejaiya, east of Gaza City, where hundreds of Palestinians were shopping, a spokesman for the Gaza health ministry said.
The attack came during a four-hour truce called by the Israeli military.
Hamas, which controls Gaza, had rejected the truce as meaningless.
Palestinian doctors said another Israeli air strike after the truce was announced had killed seven people in Khan Younis.
Earlier, the UN said Israel had attacked a UN-run school housing refugees in Gaza, despite warnings that civilians were there. Fifteen people were killed and dozens hurt.
More than 1,300 Palestinians and 55 Israelis have now died in the conflict. Most of the Palestinian deaths have been civilians.

A MARKET.

during a truce

FINALLY the White House has condemned officially one of their raids. Over a UN school. JESUS,WHEN will people react to Israel doing all of this? AND MIND YOU not that Hamas is any innocent, they’re the first to not give a rat’s ass about Palestinian lives, but last I checked it is Israel having killed over 1,000 people. But the manage most of America’s money and the world’s… so let’s not ever tell them to bloody stop it and stop violating international laws, hmm??

Unfortunately, a condemnation by the US in relation to Israel-Palestine geopolitics has neither meaning nor teeth. The US has “condemned” or “expressed concern” and even “deep concern” over Israel’s policies and actions before (depending on whether Dems or Reps in power), but never backs it up with action because of Israel’s (arguable) client/proxy state status to the US. Israel’s weaponry and military training are all American, for example, so anything said by the US is both disingenuous and hypocritical. Anything stronger and terms like anti-semitism are thrown around (which both dilutes the dangerous reality of true anti-Semitism, and crucially ignores the fact that Arabs are Semites, too.)

Detroit Water Brigade: Statement on end to emergency management of Detroit’s waterJuly 30, 2014
We commend the move by Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, City Council and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stephen Rhodes to return control of Detroit’s water to the democratically elected leadership of the city of Detroit. This is a positive step in the direction of popular control of Detroit’s water and other common resources by the people of Detroit. This decision comes after months of sustained pressure from a broad cross-section of Detroiters and their international allies: protest marches, direct action blockades, hundreds of thousands of petition signers, and a recently-filed injunction in U.S. Bankruptcy Court calling for an immediate end to the shutoff program. We are proud to work hand-in-hand with Detroiters of all stripes to affirm the human right to access to clean drinking water and sanitation and get a long-term Water Affordability Plan. We also look forward to a day when all of Detroit’s public services are returned from privatization and mismanagement to full popular control by accountable and democratically elected officials. Finally, we are committed to working in good faith with all interested parties to ensure that every single Detroiter has access to water. We call on everyone – not matter how much you owe or can pay – to join us this Saturday, August 2nd, from 8:30am to 5pm at 13303 E. McNichols Rd at the DWSD Customer Service Center in order to apply for financial assistance and get on an affordable payment plan. We will have Water Advocates on hand to counsel families and support them, as well as transportation, free food, water and childcare for any family that calls us in advance at 313-279-0608 Extension 1. This is just one step in our commitment to ensuring that the thousands of Detroiters without water today get access back, and every Detroiter can keep their water on.

interesting, but I think THIS generation as a whole is more aware of everything because of the internet, now the media can’t lie to us because we go on the internet and see the truth

Plus we ask more questions.

We don’t take what others say as fact we search for the truth.

Here’s a topic not really discussed. Many Nigerian christians are pro-Israel. Over discussions to try to get to the bottom of their position and how they arrived there, the one recurring reason for their position is their faith. I’ll elaborate.

Over the last few weeks, I noticed an uptick in cryptic facebook posts from some Nigerian christians about how what is happening in Gaza is god’s plan. Upon further investigation and directly from their own mouths, they support Israel because they believe the “chosen people” have returned to their homeland. In accordance to their beliefs, the state of Israel sets the wheels in motion for the second coming of jesus. They believe it is a biblical prophecy and that during the second coming, jews who don’t accept jesus as their lord and savior will not be spared come judgment day. This is the beginning of a chain of events that will culminate in judgment day. Their position isn’t one that favors jews in the end either. You have to believe what they believe or risk spending an eternity in hell. That’s all there is to it.

I hope I don’t need to explain why this ideology is troubling. It bothers me that seemingly intelligent and reasonable people think this makes sense. When you see Nigerian christians vehemently supporting Israel, there is a probability that this ideology is the real reason why. It has nothing to do with the statehood of Israel or anything of the sort, even though it might appear that way on the surface. They are getting ready for the end of the world based on their interpretation of the bible. It’s fundamentalist biblical dogma (though I bet they wouldn’t see themselves as fundies). You should understand this in case you encounter one of them. Once you understand this, then you’ll know it’s best not to engage with them on this topic. Never argue about religion.

You’ll notice I didn’t mention Palestinians once. When talking to Nigerian zionists, they never brought up Palestinians. Everything was about Israel, the “chosen people”, the second coming and judgment day. When I brought up Palestinians and where they fit in all this, I was largely met with “if they accept jesus as their lord and savior before it’s too late then they will enter the kingdom of heaven” type of talk. That was their answer to everything. Just accept jesus like they have. I mentioned that some Palestinians are christians. Like machines, they reverted back to how the good Palestinian christians will be abundantly blessed in the afterlife if they truly accepted jesus as their lord and savior. You cannot have a conversation grounded in reality with them sad to say.

I could go on a long spiel about the lunacy of being a Nigerian zionist, but what is the point? I’ll say this instead; some people get so deep in their religious dogma that they end up losing their humanity. If you truly believed in a higher power, then is this what god would want? Why do these people think they have a direct line to god’s plans? Did god tell them all this? God is supposed to be the omnipotent one, not them. Yet these people act like they are privy to everything supernatural.

Disclaimer: Obviously not all Nigerian christians think like this. Yes, I have to say “not all”, because people will contact me to say “not all”.

My Mom, who is not a Nigerian, was the same way because of her faith. She wouldn’t even discuss this because she claimed that they were God’s people. That to speak against what they were doing was to speak against the people that God choose. She used to say that in the Bible, God made it clear that no matter what Israel does, He will always stand by them and they will always be His people. Therefore, they and their actions were always off limit,

But I was talking to her today and she brought up the things that Israel is doing to the Palestinians. She told me how horrible it was. She can’t understand how Israel can think what they are doing is right and just.  How it has made her question things that are in the Bible because it was written by them. She even claimed that she believe Israel is using the Bible as a manipulation tool to keep people’s mouth shut and stay silent while they continue to take the lives of people that Jesus gave his life for.

I was/am truly shock and surprise that she was telling me these things. Even while writing this response, I’m trying to wrap my head around my conversation with her because I NEVER, NEVER, thought I would hear these things coming from her.  She is the same woman last year that told me she would no longer discuss the Israel/Palestine conflict. Because the last time we did, the same night she dream of God telling her that he didn’t like/want her to talk against Israel. So Israel actions are having an impact because my Mom have been a Zionist all her life because of her faith but I think that same faith is making her question and hate Israel’s actions.
